Blues Thursday

12/03/2014

Julian Mokhtar and The Magistrates are back on the Street this Thursday with more Blues. Unique interpretations of classic tunes, virtuoso musicianship and support from KL’s finest lovers of the form make this the Blues night to see. If you can’t afford a ticket to go and see the Stones in Singapore this week come down to Changkat instead; there’s no chance of being arrested for having a cigarette, there’s no cover charge and the boys play tunes that Jagger […]

Unfortunately Elwood Blues wasn’t able to bust his brother out from beyond the grave for Thursday’s show. Don’t worry – Julian Mokhtar is available, alive and rocking. Big thanks to Alex Terry, Karen Nunis Blackstone and the kids, for dropping in last week and jamming with the Magistrates.

Last chance chance for Blues this year at the Ceylon Bar. Big thanks to Zzi Blues, Mr Mokhtar’s brother in arms from Malaysia’s legendary Blues gang, for swinging by to jam last Thursday.  He wasn’t alone with Anders Larsson, Carsten Ra, Nan Blues, Simon Davenport and Ivon Smith making it the biggest Jam we’ve seen yet on Changkat. Don’t miss the best show on the street tonight as Julian will be resting his bleeding fingers over the festive period. […]

Come and join us and the hugely talented Julian Mokhtar this Thursday for more real music on Changkat Bukit Bintang. Blues on Thursday

03/12/2013

As we head into the last month of 2013 AI Unit 2 reflects on a very cool year for music on “the street” – and particularly at the Ceylon Bar.  The bar has dabbled in the past – lamentably memorable was setting up one of the Specials keyboard men ( who shall remain an anonymous one of three ) with an RD 500 incapable of producing a middle C.  Current in house main man, Mr  Julian Mokhtar, makes his own […]

Thankyou Karen Nunis Blackstone

02/12/2013

Karen Nunis Blackstone is one of Malaysia’s national treasures – successfully exported and not well enough appreciated at home in our humble opinion.  We were honored to have Karen drop by at the Ceylon Bar on Thursday and jam with Julian, Simon Davenport and the Magistrates.  If you missed it you can listen to songs from her last album here – https://myspace.com/karennunisblackstone/music/songs *** For someone who wasn’t born in the U.S. or Europe, Karen Nunis Blackstone takes a very bluesy approach […]
